Portrait of a Dutch two-decker, 1665?

A Dutch two-decker viewed from before the starboard beam. The forecourse, mizzen, main staysail and fore and main topsails are loosed, and the main yard is acockbill. There is a pendant at the main. A large part of the lower left hand corner of the drawing has been torn away, and replaced with paper pieced in, presumably a long time ago given the staining of this paper which is the same as that on the original drawing. This is an unsigned pencil and wash drawing by the Elder, which has been approximately dated by the watermark. The drawing is rubbed on the reverse and is probably an offset worked up in rather untidy pencil. The sails, loosed for drying, are freely drawn with thick pencil and a little added wash.
