A portrait of a young officer in the Parliamentary Navy dating from about 1649. He is shown half-length to right in a black silk doublet with a small white collar and a slashed sleeve. His right gloved hand points towards a ship in the right background which is partially masked by a cliff. The ship in the background wears a St George's cross at the main.
