Portrait of an English third-rate
Viewed from the wreathed quarter, a 70-gun third-rate, circa 1680, closed-hauled on the port tack, under fore course, mizzen and topsails. There is a flag at the fore.
Offset, rubbed on the back, carefully worked up in pencil not in reverse. It is approximately dated by the subject.
