Portrait of the 'Groote Herder', 38 guns, possibly built in 1665 and is last mentioned in 1667.
The 'Groote Herder', viewed from the starboard bow and drying its sails. The fore course, mizzen and topsails are loosed, the main is clewed up and the topgallants are loosed but lowered on caps. On the tafferel is a coat of arms between sea gods riding on dolphins. It is inscribed, 'groeten harder / heb niet'. The drawing is an unsigned offset, by the Elder, rubbed on the back and worked up in pencil. It is drawn in an isometric perspective. It has been approximately dated by the style. See also PAF6503.
