Portrait of the 'Zeelandia'
A ship portrait viewed from the starboard bow. The masts are shown as high as the tops. It bears the Zeeland ensign and flushing jack. On the vessel's quarter is a boat with a lugsail. In 1659, Jan Evertsen went to Copenhagen under de Ruyter as commander of the Zeeland squadron and with the rank of Vice-Admiral. He was in the 'Zeelandia' of 54 guns. At the same time, Cornelis Evertsen was Commodore of the 'Vlissingen' with 42 guns. This is a vigorous drawing almost entirely executed in thick pencil strengthened with careful work with a sharp pencil. After numerous corrections, an accurate result has been obtained, although it has been carried out in isometric perspective, giving the effect of a ship seen at a distance.
