Presentation sword owned by Captain William Rogers 1783-1825. The gilt brass stirrup hilt has a chequered ivory grip and lion's-head pommel. William Rogers was born in Falmouth in 1783 and joined the Packet Service as a boy. While in temporary command of the Windsor Castle he achived national fame when in 1807 he captured a French privateer, Jeune Richard off Barbados although heavily outnumbered.
