Presentation Sword made by Runkel and Prosser
This sword is an ornate variation of the uniform stirrup hilted sword introduced in 1805. Inscribed on the hilt on each side of the quillons is 'Trafalgar'. The locket on the scabbard has two snakes instead of rings embossed in heavy relief with a wand of Aesculapius (the god of medicine). It is believed that this sword was presented to a naval surgeon who took part in the Battle of Trafalgar.
