Rear-Admiral Sir Murray Sueter (1872-1960)
In 1912 Sueter became director of the Admiralty's air department, and after the outbreak of the First World War was largely instrumental in the rapid build-up to full war strength of the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) supported by Winston Churchill and Lord Fisher. Sir William Russell Flint (1880-1969) was a painter, mainly in watercolour, of landscapes, seascapes, gipsies and flamenco dancers, but is best known for his watercolours of female nudes. His portrait of Rear-Admiral Sueter was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1928, and was given to the NMM in 1964.
