'Resistance' (1793)

Scale: 1:48. A model of 'Resistance' (1793), a French 40-gun frigate made entirely in wood and painted in realistic colours. The hull is hollowed out and painted a copper colour below the waterline and black above. There is a broad white horizontal stripe along the gundeck, with the gunports finished in grey and edged in red. The model is complete with a square stern gallery, a quarter gallery, a rudder with its gudgeons and pintles and, at the bow, a set of drift trails, cathead and a female figurehead. The single deck, together with the inboard bulwark is painted off white and devoid of detail. The model is mounted on a wooden backboard painted off white with a mahogany stained edging.

On backboard "24". Number "14" on backboard. Plaque inscribed "107 Resistance 40, French 1796 Built at Basse Indre (near Nantes). Captured in 1797. Renamed Fisgard and rated as 38 guns Sold 1814. Dimensions Gun deck 160ft Beam 40ft 8in"
