Royal Marines sword
Royal Marines sword, the hilt of the sword consists of a gilt, open half basket guard engraved with the King's cypher 'W IV R' beneath a crown. There is a folding flap on the inside of the guard, and the whole is lined with black patent leather. The sword has a black fish-skin grip, which is bound with three gilt wires. The pommel of the sword is flat, whilst the back-piece is slightly fluted. The steel blade is slightly curved, and the pipe is backed to within 230 mm of the point. The obverse and the reverse of the blade are engraved with the Royal cypher 'W IV R' below a crown.
