Royal Naval uniform
Sword belt of the Order of the Bath which belonged to Admiral Sir John Thomas Duckworth (1748-1817). The belt has a central band of blue velvet that has been embroidered with gilt thread in an acorn and oak leaf motifs using satin stitch and couching. The buckles feature the badge of the Order of the Bath - a burnished band with the motto in raised letters 'TRIA JUNCTA IN UNO' (three joined in one), a thistle and rose issuing from a gold sceptre amid three crowns. All mounts are silver gilt and hallmarked London 1805/6. This belt would have been worn with the robes of the Order of the Bath on ceremonial occasions.
