Royal Naval uniform: pattern 1795
Epaulette of a vice-admiral worn by Nelson (1758-1805) at the Battle of Trafalgar. The epaulette is of wide gold lace mounted over card or sheet metal. There are two stars, indicating the rank of vice-admiral, worked in metal thread and silver spangles.
