Russian naval ensign (1699-1917, after 1990)
Russian naval ensign. The design was in use between 1699-1917 and was revived in 1990. It was also used as an Admiral's flag. The flag is made of silk flag with a linen hoist and is hand sewn. The flag has a wide pole sleeve partly sewn up and containing a cord halyard which suggests that it was used as a boat flag. Design: white flag with a blue saltire overall. Marked in ink on the hoist: 'Adl. King C.B. no. 4'. It belonged to the Duckworth-King family and relates to the collection of flags associated with Admiral Sir George St. Vincent Duckworth-King (1809-1891).George King was promoted to flag rank in 1862 and from Companion of the Bath (C.B.) to Knight Commander (K.C.B) in 1873.
