A seascape showing the relationship between sea and sky with an empty horizon. The sea occupies one third of the picture space and is shown as calm with dashes of colour to denote movement. The sky is painted with a thin wash of blue close to the horizon. Immediately above this is a mass of grey rising on the left and right to indicate towering cumulus. This mass is outlined with a strip of lemon to imply the reflections from the rays of the sun. The rest of the sky is painted as blocks of colour. Golden reflections from the sun play on the surface of the water in the centre and foreground.
