Seascape
A seascape showing the dramatic effects of the sky over the sea. Everett has used colour and form to convey the desired effect. The sea is shown in shades of dark grey and blue with broad curves of coloured paint indicating the movement of waves. On the right, shades of dark grey and mauve represent thick clouds, changing to lighter grey on the left. Thickly applied lemon paint in the centre of the painting indicates the presence of the sun. The intensity of the light fans out towards the horizon to represent the sun's rays. The appearance of the sky has been reduced to a study in form and colour to capture a fleeting effect.
