Seascape from the 'Castilian'
A rapid sketch from the 'Castilian', capturing the effects of light in the sky. The sea is loosely sketched, and the horizon is indicated by a dark wash of grey paint. Immediately above this the sky is shown by a lighter grey wash and the rest of the sky is bathed in a bright light streaked with a lemon- yellow wash. Everett sailed in the steamer, 'Castilian', from London to the Mediterranean, between October 1937 and February 1938.
