Seascape from the 'Castilian'
A sketch made from the deck of the 'Castilian', capturing the dramatic effect of the setting sun. The dead calm sea is represented as a flat wash of colour becoming darker as it is graded towards the horizon. The sky is shown with banks of cloud in differing shades of grey and the sun is indicated by bands of brilliant tones of yellow, pink, orange and red. Everett has fused several different techniques to achieve his dramatic effect.
