Seascape from the 'Suzanne'
One of a series of sketches made at sea from the barque, 'Suzanne'. Through a vivid use of colour Everett has shown the brilliance of the sun, low in the sky and close to the sea. In contrast the sky is shown as a combination of lemon and bright yellow, as distinct from the dark sea which ranges in tone from deep blue to light. The effects of thickly applied impasto and the use of loose brush strokes enhance the dramatic effect.
