Seascape, Jersey
A sketch of the sea made while the artist was at Corbiere in Jersey, showing the beach in the foreground, sea and sky. The sky dominates the image and Everett has adopted a formalistic approach, reducing the clouds to patterns and blocks of purple, yellow and cream. The beach is shown by a series of horizontal bands of colour. In his seascapes Everett was concerned with the effect of light and representations of light in the sky and the relationship between the sea and the sky. He stayed at Corbiere from 13 January to 6 February 1928, to paint the constantly changing appearance of sea and sky.
