Sectional model; Beam
Scale: Unknown. Section of ship's side showing the two different methods of securing beams with iron knees as proposed by Joseph Tucker in 1828, made of wood and metal. The exterior planking which is varnished natural wood has been applied to a solid core representing the frames which is complete with ceiling planking, the whole of which has been pierced through with iron bolts. Internally there are two beams the upper showing the improved plan of a forked hanging knee whereas the lower knee is mounted on deck which is supported by a beam below. In addition to the knees there are also metal support straps around the beams together with scored lines indicating scarphs and joints. On top of the model are a series of black painted areas which indicate spacings between the individual frames.
Number "15" on model.
