Sectional model

Scale: Unknown. Model of the midship section of a shotproof ship made entirely in wood with metal fittings and painted in realistic colours. One half of the model shows a conventional method of iron framing and construction, the half shows a hull that encloses part of the deck. The hull is painted black below the waterline, grey above and the upper hull plates are indicated by black lines. The wooden cladding of the hull is shown on the section faces by simulated graining. The iron frames, knees and deck plating is painted blue-grey. The conventional half of the model is reinforced with wooden planks, crosspieces and iron crosspieces. The proposed improvement include two decks, the lower one being supported by five metal columns attached to the keelson. The deck of the improved half of the model is joined to the hull at an angle of about 30 degrees where it terminates in the waist forming the upper deck. The model has three removeable hull sections, two on the conventional side and one on the improved side. The model is displayed on four turned wooden pillar supports mounted on a rectangular mahogany baseboard with bevilled edges and turned feet.
