Sectional model; Midship model; Gun port model
Scale: Unknown. A sectional model depicting a gun port on the 16-gun brig HMS 'Snake' (1832), made in wood and painted in realistic colours. The staple or cranks for the bar to fit in for raising and lowering gun port lid are included. The gun port lid is hinged and can be opened, and in the lower corners there are a pair of eye bolts. A section of the deck beams are shown, together with the method for supporting the beams using a knee. The exterior is painted white with a black gunwhale immediately beneath the gun port. On the inside, the gun deck is painted white and the hull is bright red with a black dado. The metalwork for securing the gun port lid in its opening position is painted black, and the four eye bolts for working the gun are painted red.
