Sectional model; Plank-on-frame

Scale: 1:24. A model depicting half a midship section of the 3rd rate 80-gun warship HMS Vanguard (1835), showing the diagonal framing, risers and deck beams. The model has been made in wood and the inside frames have been stained and varnished a uniform dark brown colour. The diagonal and longitudinal iron framing has been painted black and the securing bolts have been shown using brass pins. The truncated deck beams have been depicted on the main deck and gun deck, four beams have been depicted on each deck. The frames have been drawn onto the outside of the hull and filling frames have also been marked and their voids indicated in black. The model is mounted on its keel to a simple wooden baseboard, stained dark brown and the model is supported on one side by a wooden crutch. The model has been stamped 'J9'.
