Shipping in the Bosporus
An imaginary scene, showing a Dutch ship flying the Dutch flag and pendants, running down bow-on to the viewer and possibly about to anchor. The presence of several Mediterranean galleys to the right of the picture implies that this denotes a Mediterranean scene. There is considerable detailing present on the galley in the centre of the painting which is pulled by 20 oars. To the far right is a rocky coastline with a fortified port below, and a towered fortress above on the cliffs.
