'S.Jose', starboard stern quarter
Scale: 1:12. Full hull model of the double-ended whale boat 'S.Jose', built plank on frame. It was used in the Azores, a small group of islands in the North Atlantic, close to the migration route of whales. It could be rowed or sailed and was steered by a rudder or large oar over the side, at the stern. It is fully equipped with sails, mast and spars, and the various tools needed to hunt whales.
