Slave dial chronometer, complete in case
A Shepherd chronometer, sympathetic with the Mean Solar Clock. This chronometer, in reality a slave dial connected to the Observatory's Shepherd master clock, was used on the Time Desk at Greenwich for comparing mean solar time with sidereal time, from 1852 when Airy's time-distribution system was brought into use, to 1940 when the control of the time service moved from Greenwich to Abinger and Edinburgh.
