Slight sketch of 'Newcastle' frigate at Spithead
Mounted in album with PAH3772-PAH3794, PAH3796-PAH3801. No. 24 of 30
'...May 7th 1814, the stern of a different vessel, and a moored vessel viewed from the stern with buildings beyond'.
Inscribed 'Newcastle frigate at Spithead May 7th 1814'.
HMS 'Newcastle' was a 4th rate of 60 guns (pitch pine-built) built by Wigram and Green at Blackwall and launched on 10 November 1813. The ship flies signal flags from the peak of her gaff, perhaps for identification, and a cutter is depicted on her port side.
