Solid half-basket hilted sword
Owned by Gunner A.J.C. Farlow (active 1941). The hilt consists of a solid half-basket with raised bars and crown above and an anchor badge (crown is 1901-52 type). There is a lion's-head pommel and back-piece, the mane extending its full length, and a prominent tang button. The white fish-skin grip is bound with three gilt wires. The hilt is hinged and pierced on the reverse. Blade is straight, flat-backed with a single fuller running for two-thirds of its length, and a spear point. There is a black leather scabbard with two gilt lockets and chape, with a pointed shoe and ring suspension. The lockets have a thread decoration. The swordknot is of 1891 onwards type and is in good condition.
