Sporting rifle
The stock is possibly made of walnut. The underside of the butt is curved in a way reminiscent of early 18th century longarms. Fully stocked to muzzle with a cap of yellow ivory at the end. Small carved cheek piece on left of the butt. Trigger guard of plain brass with close resemblance to that fitted to the Baker rifle. Three brass ramrod pipes and heavy iron ramrod. Flat brass butt plate. It has a flintlock sidelock. The barrel is browned and of octagonal external section. Rifled with nine grooves, right hand twist. No rearsight and the brass foresight is possibly a later addition as it has been rather crudely fitted into a roughly morticed groove.
