Stirrup hilted sword

Stirrup hilted sword, which is thought to have belonged to Admiral Sir John Lawford (1756-1842). The hilt of the sword consists of a gilt stirrup guard, with langets that have been polished smooth. The sword has a lion's-head pommel and back-piece, the mane extending two-thirds of the length of the back-piece. The sword has a knurled ivory grip.
