Straight-bladed dirk

Owned by George and Henry Symons (died 1819). The hilt consists of a turned ivory grip with brass lion's-mask pommel, ferrule and cross-piece. The cross-piece is flattened and in the form of two dolphins, with tails intertwined - a pair on either side of the grip. The blade is of a flattened diamond section, double-edged, the point having been slightly chipped and there is slight traces of etching.
