Straight stirrup hilted sword

Straight stirrup-hilted sword owned by Admiral Robert Stopford 1811-1891. The hilt consists of a straight stirrup guard with lion's-head pommel and back strap/piece. The ivory grip is bound with copper wire and has inset tablets engraved with (obverse) Royal arms and (reverse) arms of R. Stopford (?). Robert Stopford (the elder son of Admiral Sir Robert Stopford 1768-1847) entered the Navy in 1824& he became a Commander in 1838& a Captain in 1840 and a Rear-Admiral in 1860& a Vice-Admiral in 1866 and a retired Admiral in 1871.
