Study of the lower half of a human face, possibly a statue
This 'study of the lower half of a female face' was done by Louisa Herschel when she was 15 or 16 years old. As the title suggests, the 'female' in question would probably have been a plaster model of a statue. Paintings, plaster casts of statues and parts of statues would have been the standard tools of such a tutor.
