Tank testing model; Design model
Scale: Unknown. A full hull tank testing model of a shallow draughted unidentified vessel complete with a rounded counter stern and slightly raking bow. There is a tinplate foredeck fitted with a v-shaped after edge, which was presumably to prevent water splashing over the bow during the towing trials and thus affecting the trim and draught. It has been constructed in bread and butter fashion with the internal stepped shape planks varnished to prevent water ingress. The external hull has been finished the usual high smooth finish, painted sky blue and is annotated on both sides with a series of letters and numbers representing the stations, starting with 'A' at the stern, 1/2, 1 through to 10 at the bow, and the model number 'T1963' at the bow also. Just aft of the metal foredeck is a wooden beam athwartships probably used as a handle and an attachment point for the towing trials. There is also evidence of worm infestation internally at the stern on the model and as such has been wrapped and sealed in polythene awaiting assessment and treatment by conservation.
