Teapot, part of a set reputedly belonging to Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805)

Oval teapot, cover and stand, part of a tea service said to have belonged to Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). The teapot is decorated with leaf sprays and red and blue flowers, painted on a white background. It has a moulded handle with a thumb scroll, a moulded spout, gilt rims and decoration, and it stands on an oval foot. The lid has a high knop, decorated in gilt and is painted with matching flower sprays, as is the oval stand. The service formed part of the collection of the Royal United Services Museum, and was said to have been acquired by the grandfather of the donor at the sale of Lord Nelson's effects.
