The Battle of Trafalgar, 21 October 1805: the 'Temeraire' between the 'Redoutable' and 'Fougeux'
Pocock has inscribed this drawing: 'Position at 4 PM -Trafalgar- the Temeraire between the Fougeux & Redoutable'; and to the left 'Neptune' [British ship] E[ast?], suggesting the view is from the north. The mainmast of the 'Fougeux', on the right, is falling across the 'Temeraire', with 'Redoutable' on the left of the group. Below the inscription is the detail of a fiddle-head, which may be the 'Fougeux's' or 'Temeraire's'. On the reverse is a plan of ship positions and the name ' Capt. Kennedy / Late of the Temeraire / Puckeridge Stondon HERTS',which suggests the drawing may be connected with a commission from him. See also PAD8778.
