The Last Supper
Engraving of the Last Supper by P.W. Tomkins after Jacopo da Pontormo. It depicts the last supper Jesus shared with his disciples before his arrest and crucifixion (John 13:21). The print shows the moment Jesus announces that one of them would betray him. The individual reactions of the apostles are vividly portrayed; Saint John's position with Jesus' arm around his neck, and a dish in front of him can be seen as a prefiguration of his beheading and the presentation of his head on a silver dish.
