The 'Mary Dugdale' (1835) alongside a quay at Swansea. Inversed digital file to create b&w positive

A waxed paper calotype negative. A port quarter view of the three-masted barque Mary Dugdale (1835) dried out alongside a quay at Swansea. Off its stern, dried out in the river, is the forward part of the three-masted barque Countess of Bective (1843). Both ships have their fore and mainmast lower yards scandalized (set at an acute angle to the decks). In a letter dated 3 November 1846 to WHF Talbot from Calvert Jones, he lists the Swansea negatives and includes a number relating to the Mary Dugdale [BL, Doc No 5769]. However, a specific tie-in has not been possible. Jones had arrived back in England from his European trip in early June 1846 to sort out the afffairs of his dead uncle.
