The sea area is decorated with ships and a sea monster.From volume eight, Maps of Ireland, of the Dartmouth collection of maps and plans, compiled for or by George Legge, Master General of the Ordnance. The Irish rebellion led by Earl Desmond ended in 1583. Queen Elizabeth confiscated his estates in Munster and distributed them among English notables including Sir Walter Ralegh, Sir Christopher Hatton and Sir Richard Grenville, who undertook to repopulate them with English families. The landholdings of Raleigh and Hatton are shown either side of the Blackwater, inland from Youghal.
