The oak staircase [of Crowley House] had a massive balustrade, the panels of which were filled in with carved foliage': from H. H. Drake (ed.), 'Hasted's History of Kent' (vol. 1, 1886), p. 79, facing which Drake's lithographic sketches copied from this drawing and PAH3264 are reproduced.
