The 'steam ship 'Leviathan' ('Great Eastern')
After being launched in January 1858, the 'Great Eastern' was taken to Deptford where her public areas were fitted out to the standards of a luxury hotel. The paddle and screw engines, the ten boilers, five funnels and six masts (named Monday to Saturday) and all the associated machinery were also installed and rigged.
