The taking of the 'Nuestra Senora de les Remedios' by the 'Prince Frederick', 'Duke' and 'Prince George' Privateers, 5 February 1746
In 1753 Boydell published a set of engravings illustrating the exploits of the 'Royal Family Privateers', a group of ships named after members of George II's family. They were commanded by George Walker, a famous privateer (the term describes either a privately owned vessel operating against enemy trade in time of war or its commander). This is one of four drawings by Brooking in the Museum's collection made specifically as designs for Boydell's engravings. Also in the Museum's collection is a group of oil paintings by Brooking of the Royal Family. Like the drawings they convey a sense of atmosphere that is typical of Brooking, but unusual in depictions of naval actions.
