To the Memory of the Gallant Nelson...
A simple monochrome print of which the central design represents a grove with weeping willow, representing melancholy. There is an urn on a platform with the word 'NELSON' to indicate immortality, penitence, the death of the body and its return to dust in the final resting-place. The inscription in the inner roundel reads, 'THE HERO FELL 21 OCT 1805 HAVING GAINED 12 VICTORIES'. An anchor and cable (also indistinctly inscribed) rest against the trunk of the willow in the foreground on the right. Through words and a starkly dramatic yet simple image, the print communicates homage to Nelson.
