Visit of Charles II to the 'Tiger' at Woolwich: The King leaving one of the yachts
The drawing depicts the King in the right centre, leaving a yacht. The royal standard is depicted being struck at the masthead and the barge under the yacht's stern is pulling away, towards the 'Tiger.' The 'Kitchen' is seen in the foreground, depicted from the stern view. It is commanded by Captain Crow, identified by the inscription 'kroo'. In the left centre is a starboard quarter view of the 'Tiger' at anchor, with its streamers at the yard-arms and men seen cheering in the shrouds. On the left is a stern view of the 'Charlotte' (de siarlet) with her mainsail brailed up. Beyond, further away is the 'Mary' (Maeri). On the right are two bezan yachts and a few other yachts beating to windward. This drawing is numbered 36 in the upper left-hand corner. It seems that several inscriptions on the drawing have been cut off. The drawing is one in a series which is continued by van de Velde's drawing of The 'Tiger' and yachts at anchor off the Isle of Sheppey, 1681 (PAH4118).
