Warship
Scale: 1:48. A contemporary half block model of a proposed 100-gun two-decker ship of the line (1835). The hull is carved from several blocks of wood(?) and is painted a metallic copper/bronze colour below the main wales. The topsides are painted black, interspersed by the two gundecks highlighted by creamy white horizontal bands. The gunports are flush with the hull and rigged with cannon in their firing positions(some missing). The bow is fitted with head rails just aft of the beakhead, together with a single cathead. At the stern are carved almost circular galleries painted black with mouldings highlighted in white, above a near vertical sternpost is fitted with a rudder. The whole model is mounted on a rectangular wooden backboard. there is a detached plaque inscribed "173. Ship of 90-94 guns, about 1835. scale 1/48 (1/4 to 1') A ship similar to No.174 or the Rodney of 1833 (No 168) but longer. Probably a proposed design. Dimensions: - Gun deck 212ft. Beam 54ft.".
