Watch in gilt metal and simulated tortoiseshell pair case. The potence plate is engraved with the words 'Thos Brown', 'Chester' and the number '130'. The gilt metal inner case is engraved on the back with the name 'Horatio Nelson' and date '1779'. The inscription, which relates to Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) is thought to be dubious. Thomas Brown was a member of the Goldsmiths Company in 1773.
