Webley Mark I revolver

Service revolver. The stock consists of hard rubber grips applied to a butt which is of the rounded rather than flat end type. A lanyard ring is secured to the tip of the butt. The solid frame was made in one with the barrel but designed to 'break' for loading. The revolver has a double action lock with six-chambered cylinder. The barrel is basically six-sided externally with a pronounced blade extension acting as a foresight. The barrel is rifled with seven grooves and a right-hand twist. The calibre is 0.45in. The revolver is inscribed on the left side frame 'WEBLEY MARK I PATENTS'. There are proof marks on top of the frame and on each chamber. It is also inscribed with a broad arrow and serial number '2998'. This revolver was the first Webley British Government Model adopted by both the Army and the Navy in 1887.P. Webley & Sons
