Weyschuits, a kaag and Dutch men-of-war in the Texel, 1643
Dutch ships at anchor in the Texel, 1643. The drawing shows, in the foreground, small craft (weyschuits and kaags) at anchor and pulled up on the shore near some carts by a wharf on the left. In the centre middle distance a large yacht is at anchor. Texel is an island off the coast of North Holland. Above it, in the Younger's hand is an inscription, also in Dutch, 'd Legger kapitijn Jan soet' which may refer to the yachts owner or commander. There are many ships at anchor in the background. On the reverse there is a small signature W.V.V.J. which may either be a very early signature by the Younger, but is more likely to be false.
