Weyschuits near a pier: Dutch ships lying off

A port-quarter view of a weyschuit broadside to the shore and two others with their sterns to the shore. A man is pulling in on the right. Sever ships of the rear squadron are at anchor in the background: the vice- and rear-admirals and a private ship with main and main topmast staysails hoisted and fore and main topgallants loosed.

This is one of two drawings (see PAF6476) doubtfully attributed to the Elder. It is possible that the delicate pencil work which has been added to them is by the Younger, while the note 'uijt' in PAF6476, indicating that the presence of the vessel on the left is spoiling the composition, is almost certainly by him. The drawing is approximately dated by the style and watermark.
