A Dutch ship at anchor off the land
The drawing has been signed and dated by the artist. The work is by van de Velde, the younger with pen and wash added by Charles Gore. It appears to have been made at the same time as PAJ2430, or, as suggested by Robinson, shortly after, as the hull of the same ship is shown in shadow and similarly silhouetted with a kaag passing close alongside her. There is a rising coastline in the right distance and a harbour in the centre distance. The drawing has pen and wash additions by Charles Gore. A drawing by the Younger signed in brown ink 'W.V.V.J', and is inscribed on the reverse, possibly by Charles Gore, 'No. 4'. It has been approximately dated by the watermark. The signature is probably much later.
